blogging while on the road

i interrupt my travel journal to write about my journey in figuring out how to travel with one device, in addition to my camera, that does it all.

i am not a tech savvy person at all, just putting it out there. i am the person that clicks on the icon on the internet that looks like the right thing and downloads a virus that eventually takes the IT dept. a day and a half to remove. i digress.

i will go into more detail later, but i am planning a five week trip in Sept. and i have been trying to figure out the best, and smallest collection of devices to bring. although i have a little netbook which is awesome for email, it’s lousy for movies, not enough oomph, yes, that is the technical term. oomph. also the netbook requires a 3-prong outlet and my power converters are only for a 2-prong. this was realized when trying to charge the netbook in Peru. i don’t want to purchase another converter set, and i need my entertainment. enter the iPad.

the iPad; slim, plays movies well, holds books, music and photos, plus it connects to the internet. well, that should work nicely even though i miss having real keys to type on. first i have to figure out how to download my photos from the camera onto the iPad. ah-ha, there is an Apple connector i can buy. of course there is, Apple makes everything. i tried it out and it worked, yay for me. but then i tried to write a blog post…..it didn’t work. the relationship between device and content interfaces, not one of love. so i confer with my highly tech savvy co-workers. you know what they said right? “oh, there’s got to be an app for that”, and yes there was. but i don’t like the way it formats. so then i hear about the ability to email a post to your blog. whoa, nifty. but i can’t attach a photo from the iPad to the email, sigh.

the solution, send the blog post via email, upload a photo using the app., then spend far too much time editing, formatting, jumping between multiple applications and obsessing over line spacing. not an efficient way to blog while on the road, but hey, if I can’t sleep i now have something new to fill the time.

ps. i can’t tell you how hard i tried to get one less space between the header and the post. it’s driving me nuts, but alas, i think i need to let it go. at least for now………. oh yes, i woke up and fixed it on the computer.
